one of the most important things to remember is that the kitten needs you to care for it in every way. |
it needs to go the vet to be neutered at between 5-7 months dont leave it any longer as siamese are very precocious and you could have a calling girl or a spraying boy. neither of which is any fun at all. |
it needs its vaccinations every year.it needs worming regularly.it needs spraying to stop it getting fleas. but most of all it needs loving and playing with.make time every day to play with your kitten even when it becomes a cat, this is quality time for you and it and you will be amply rewarded. |
remember there are hazards around in the home. |
some houseplants are poisonous to cats, the christmas poinsettia for one.chemicals must be kept away from them too, never be tempted to give a cat aspirin or paracetamol they are toxic to cats. |
stick to kitten food until it is at least 9 months, try and give it what it had at the breeders, dont be tempted to give it too many treats it will come to expect them and wind you round its paw!! you wouldnt be the first to have to buy the kitten/cat best steak as thats what it has come to expect!!!don't feed liver or tuna too often both are loved by cats but both have negative effects on the cats systemn.don't give siamese milk, they often cannot tolerate it.water is fine. |
keep a pot of grass or parsley or chives growing in the house it is good for them and they like it,don't worry if it makes them sick that is quite natural.cats in the wild eat grass too do just that. |
it is better to feed little and often and the beauty of a good quality dried food is that it can be left down all day without spoiling.give the occassional piece of gristley steak to the cat to chew raw it will help to clean its teeth. you can now buy toothpaste and toothbrushes for cats, get them used to this from a kitten,it will save costly vets bills later. |
if in doubt about the cats health at all get it to a vet quickly ,they can deteriorate very fast. |
make sure you check microwaves, cookers, washing machines etc before switching on, cats love to hide in them.put toilet seats down, cats have been known to fall in ,in their search for a drink!! |
a question which vexes many is do i let my cat out? |
siamese are very inquisitive and will get into trouble in the big wide world.far better to put up an enclosure in the garden with a shelter from the weather and toys for them to play with, climbing areas such as old tree trunks, large drainpipes to run through etc etc.this will keep them amused and safe. |
above all enjoy your kitten/cat and i hope you have many happy years with it. |
your vet and the breeder of the kitten should be able to give you any advice you need but if not contact us by clicking on the cat below. |
