ok the kitten has begun to settle but how do you introduce it to other pets in the house.the |
answer is very carefully! |
other pets could attack it or ignore it,it will probably spit at them either way.never leave a new kitten with an older resident pet until you are absolutely sure they have accepted each other.sometimes it is necessary to pen the kitten in a small cage with a bed .if when you picked the kitten up from the breeder you took something for it to lie on that the older pet had lain on the scent will be transferred to the kitten and make it more acceptable.make a fuss of the resident pet and not the kitten or jealousy may take over.feed them seperately as this can be a time of antagonism towards the newcomer. |
they may get on straight away it may take weeks. |
|
ok so the kitten is settled its getting on with the resident pet,now what. |
take time to groom the kitten once a week, play with it,get it used to you looking in its mouth, clipping its claws, checking its ears.the more you handle it and get it used to this the better.it will help at the vets and at shows,if it is used to these things happening to it. |
