put yourself in the kittens shoes. |
it has never left its mum before,or its brothers and sisters.it doesnt know you, nothing smells right, and you put it in that horrid carrier and then inside this dragon that made horrible noises and threw it around everytime it went around a corner.it is terrified. |
then you arrive at your home, again nothing smells right, its mum, brothers and sisters aren't there,it is so frightened.so how can you help? |
don't whatever you do make lots of noise, don't invite all the neighbours and every relative you have to see it.put it in its carrier in a small room, shut the door so it cannot escape, make sure all windows are shut, cupboards closed etc.let it out of its carrier but let it decide when to leave its only haven. |
let it find its litter tray,it may not use it yet but at least it knows where it is.make sure the food and water are not too near the litter tray.(would you want to eat in the toilet?) |
sit on the floor, let it come to you, talk to it gently, stroke it if it lets you but give it a chance to sniff around the room.it may well take refuge under a piece of furniture, let it,just sit quietly, give it time. |
if it doesnt seem to want to come to you dont keep picking it up,leave it alone for a little while and let it explore its surroundings.next time you come into the room do so as quietly as possibel so as not to startle it,sit on the floor and let it come to you. |
